Amanda Nelson, PA-C

Amanda completed her undergraduate studies at Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts. Following this, she spent time teaching middle and high school sciences in South Gate, California through the Teach for America program. During this time, she earned a Master's degree in Urban Education. At the completion of her Teach for America service, Amanda realized that she was ready to switch gears and pursue a career in the medical field. Amanda completed a program at USC Keck School of Medicine where she earned a Master of Science in Global Medicine. This program opened her eyes to the wide variety of health professions available and helped her decide that she wanted to become a Physician Assistant. Amanda completed her Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies at Western University of Health Sciences in Pomona, California. During her time as a student, she spent significant time rotating with Dr. Hightower and realized that Coast Urological Medical Group was where she wanted to build a career in medicine.

At Coast Urology, Amanda continues to see patients with Dr. Hightower as her supervising physician. She takes patient's medical histories, performes examinations, orders and interprets lab and imaging studies to make appropriate diagnostic and treatment decisions. As a Board Certified Physician Assistant in the state of California, Amanda is able to write prescriptions for any medication that her patients may require. As a former educator, patient education is important to Amanda, and she spends significant time with each patient to ensure that they are informed and able to participate in their own medical decision making.

Amanda lives in Long Beach and enjoys movies, traveling, and spending time with family and friends.
